A statistical method for experimental investigation of plastic deformation by twinning in metals in the presence of prior and concomitant sliding is developed and implemented.

The physical mechanisms and regularities of structural rearrangement of a metal crystal at the stage of advanced twinning are established.

New physical phenomena during twinning are discovered and studied: spontaneous reversibility of plastic deformation of twinning with increasing load due to sliding; lack of correlation between the processes of generation and movement of twinning dislocations during the development of residual wedge-shaped twins.

Principles of mathematical modeling of twinning plasticity processes in real crystals are developed.

The foundations of the theory of plasticization and hardening of metal crystals during mechanical twinning are laid.
