Semyon Petrovich Kundas (12. 04. 1953-26. 11. 2020)

International Sakharov Environmental Institute of the Belarusian State University regretfully informs that on November 26, 2020, at the age of 68, the winner of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of technology (2001), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Semyon Petrovich Kundas passed away.

Semyon Petrovich was born on April 12, 1953 in the village of Zamoshchany, Kalinkovichi district, Gomel region. After graduating with honours in 1975 from the Minsk Radio Engineering Institute with a degree “Engineer. Designer-Technologist of Radio Equipment”, he worked as a junior researcher at the Department of Radio Electronic Equipment Technology of the Radio Engineering Institute. Graduated from graduate school in 1980, continuing to work as an assistant at the same department. From 1986 to 2003, he worked as an associate professor, and then professor and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.

From 2003 to 2013, Semyon Petrovich Kundas served as the Rector of the International Sakharov Environmental University. Under his direct supervision, extensive work was carried out on the training of scientific personnel and the coordination of scientific research, two new specialities were opened “Informational Systems and Technologies in Ecology” and “Medical Physics”, and the work of regional postgraduate educational courses of the IAEA was organized.

Semyon Petrovich was the head of the Permanent Commission on Radioecological Education of the CIS countries, and achieved the status of the university as the basic organization of the CIS member states for environmental education.

S. P. Kundas was a recognized authority in the scientific and educational spheres of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, as well as Germany and Poland, was the author and co-author of 8 monographs, 4 textbooks with the stamp of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, published more than 200 articles and made 29 inventions.

Semyon Petrovich’s achievements were awarded with diplomas of the Ministries of the Republic of Belarus, the bronze medal of the USSR VDNH, the badge “Inventor of the USSR”.

The bright memory of Semyon Petrovich will forever remain in the hearts of graduates, employees, students, postgraduates and all those who were familiar with him and his scientific and pedagogical heritage.
