Faculty of Environmental Medicine
The Faculty of Environmental Medicine was originally established as the Department of Radiobiology, Radiation and Nuclear Medicine. A great contribution to the formation and development of the Department was made by the Rector of International Sakharov Environmental University, Professor A. A. Milyutin, who headed the Department from 1994 to 1997.
The faculty trains students to study and evaluate the impact of environmental factors of bio-and abiogenic origin on the state of cells, tissues, organs and all body systems (cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine, immune, etc.). Students are taught methods to diagnose various types of pathology, evaluate the effectiveness of treatment (immunocorrection, screening of immunoreactive drugs), methods to search for molecular markers of the impact of environmental factors on the body and molecular markers of ongoing pathological processes, as well as the full range of modern clinical and diagnostic methods.
Students of the faculty receive good practical training not only in University laboratories with modern equipment, but also based on clinics, clinical and research laboratories, institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, clinical and research institutes of the Ministry of Health and other organizations and institutions of both medical and preventive care.
Faculty of Environmental Monitoring
The Faculty of Environmental Monitoring was originally established as the Department of Radiobiology, Radiation and Nuclear Medicine. The first Rector of International Sakharov Environmental University, Professor A.M. Lyutsko, made a great contribution to the formation and development of the Department. He founded the Department and provided direct support to it from 1991 to 1997. Subsequently, the third Rector of International Sakharov Environmental University, Professor S. P. Kundas, actively participated in the development of the faculty.
The faculty trains students in a group of engineering specialties related to ensuring the rational use of natural resources, environmental safety and environmental protection. Students are taught methods of environmental monitoring, radiation monitoring, environmental impact assessment; analysis of data obtained to make decisions on environmental management, work with legal and regulatory documentation, the basics of nuclear and radiation safety at nuclear power plants and when exposed to ionizing radiation on personnel and the population; principles of medical physics and the use of radiation technologies in medicine, conduct system energy analysis (energy audit) of enterprises, technological processes and devices, assess their functional, economic and energy efficiency; calculate the energy efficiency of design solutions, assess their environmental safety.
Students of the faculty receive good practical training not only in University laboratories with modern equipment, but also based on industrial and energy sector enterprises, departments of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, research centers, hydrometeorological center, design organizations, High-Tech Park, medical institutions.
